LibreOffice was developed by an open source community "The Document Foundation". Previously, this community is the OpenOffice application developers, because OpenOffice has been acquired by Oracle Corp., the developers left Oracle and create a new open source office applications LibreOffice.
The Document Foundation is also supported by various parties such as Google, Canonical, the Free Software Foundation, Open Source Initiative, Novell, Red Hat and many more. So many open source enthusiasts to switch from OpenOffice to LibreOffice.
The goal is to produce office applications that support ODF format without licenses and copyright of the Company.
